A team of archaeologists and historians have unearthed a human skeleton, thought to be dating back to the early Iron Age, from Talagada village in Odisha’s Cuttack district on Wednesday.
Apart from the skeleton, researchers also found an axe and some artefacts, which they think are from the Stone Age, from the excavation site.

The team, led by Umakanta Mishra, assistant professor of the Ravenshaw University’s history department, has been exploring the site for over a year.

The articles discovered from the excavation site include animal bones, red and black pottery and stone tools.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the skeleton, which was found face down, belongs to early Iron Age.

According to reports, eminent skeleton biologist Veena Mushrif of Deccan College, Pune, will examine the skeleton and other items discovered from the site.

Sources also revealed that the skeleton ans other artefacts recovered from the site would be sent for carbon dating to either the Deccan College Post-Graduate and Research Institute, Pune or Birbal Sahani Institute of Paleobotany, Lucknow.
